February shenanigans!
I started 2026 thinking that it’s going to be a quieter period, but life seems to have other plans! Annoyingly, I caught the dreaded bug that has been going around and it knocked me out for a good week, after which I promptly pulled and injured my neck, which I’m still nursing. However, time and tide waits for no one, eh?
The Zen Parent
I’m really proud to share that The Zen Parent will be available in all mainstream bookshops from Thursday, 12th February 2026! To celebrate, I’ll be having a book launch at Present Tense, Newington Green… and though it’s not my first book, it’s my first book launch! I’m excited to be able to celebrate with some friends and family in person this time. If you’re interested and available, do come and join us! RSVP: https://bit.ly/ZenParent.
British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) Awards Longlist
The BSFA Awards Longlist was published two weeks ago, and I have two pieces nominated that I am very proud of. For all BSFA members, we have until 19th February to vote! Link and info here!
If you’re not a BSFA member yet and would like to join, you can sign up here!
Imaginary Papers 23
I have been following the work of Arizona State University’s Center for Science and Imagination for a very long time now, and last year, I had the good fortune and honour to write a Forgotten Futures article for their newsletter Imaginary Papers.
My piece on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a simple and carefully constructed summary of the main argument from my PhD research—understanding that cultural technologies, especially those outside of what we consider as mainstream science, would present science fiction in different ways. In this article, I consider that wuxia (and other Sino speculative fiction) should be considered as science fiction through its own cultural lens, rather than through those determined by modern science.
Ab Terra 2024
Since 2020, Dawn Ostlund and I have been quietly working on an annual science fiction anthology called Ab Terra, supported and published by Brain Mill Press. Our most recent issue, Ab Terra 2024 is on the BSFA longlist! We love all the stories in every issue and are proud to see that the anthology and all the wonderful stories getting some recognition.
For more information on Ab Terra 2024 that features a foreword by Tia Tashiro, follow this link.
Vector 302 (Winter 2026) - Zoefuturism
Finally, for all BSFA members, I’m very excited that we’ll be receiving a copy of this in the post soon! It’s been super fun working on this with Stephen Oram! The first of two issues, we will have a stream of articles to explore Zoefuturism in a diverse range of perspectives and themes. As the printed copies are only for members, if you’d like to join, follow this link (memberships range from £20-£33 per annum).
I realise that this post is very much just updates… so for a bit of entertainment, here’s a picture of me getting some cuddles from Kuzya, the most gorgeous cat I know! If you’d like to challenge that, I’m open to getting invitations for more cat cuddles (please and thank you ;)).
In case I don’t get to share another update before, a very happy Spring Festival and Lunar New Year to you all! May the year of the Fire Horse bring you good health, wonderful opportunities, and loads of love and happiness!

What a gorgeous picture of you and that gorgeous cat! Always love to hear from you and your extroardinarily productive life, and best of luck with the book launch!
