The world was here long before it became ours. An unsubstantiated claim that we declared to no one but ourselves. The world will be here long after we will lose it, through our own demise when we won’t be here to force that claim anymore.
For that, we seek to force our mark on this world in the short space of time in which we are present. Death and destruction follow our path, marking a legacy that we proudly display, ignorant, by choice, to the fact that it is a legacy only to us, for no one else cares.
As we become I, pride continues to drive our need to etch in others’ memories, something of I.
I discover new frontiers
I work to eliminate diseases
I am the best in what I do
I disrupt the status quo
I fight for my country
I kill.
I am powerful.
We think it is all justified because we remember
chaos over peace
destruction over construction
pain over care
hurt over love.
The truth is: it is only we who remember.
Memory plays no part for the world, only the now matters.
Forget the long term future I will leave behind for we will not be here anyway. Can I bring good to now? Show love to the world so we may all enjoy their company together. Our moment with them is transient, for they were here long before we wanted them for our own, and they will not remember our goodbye.
Thank you for reading.
